Dresden Restaurants and Dresden Dining
(Dresden, Saxony, Germany, DE)

Dresden Restaurants and Dining: Picture of the city centreThis part of Saxony is famed for its fresh gingerbread (lebkuchen) and stollen, a traditional bread-like cake particularly popular at Christmas time. Authentic German restaurants are widespread around the city of Dresden and offer a true taste of the city. When dining out in one of Dresden's many restaurants, you can be sure to find much more than bratwurst sausages.

However, if German cuisine isn't really your thing, fear not, since a good selection of international restaurants are also on hand, serving everything from Chinese stir-fries and Japanese sushi, to Thai curries and American-style steaks.

Traditional German fare varies greatly, although many restaurants in Dresden do choose to serve rye-grain bread, freshwater fish, vegetable soups, thick noodles, sour sauerkraut cabbage, and pot-roasted meat. As with the whole of Germany, when dining out in Dresden, you can expect to also enjoy a good selection of beers, many of which will originate from regional breweries.

Dresden Restaurants and Dining: Where to Eat - Dresden, Germany, DE
The best selection of restaurants within Dresden can be found around the historic Altstadt district, where traditional Saxony cuisine is readily available for all budgets. Many eateries are to be found around the Altstadt's rather beautiful Theaterplatz, close to the Semper Opera House. Also nearby, a number of notable restaurants in Dresden stand alongside the banks of the River Elbe, offering pleasant outlooks as you eat, with some even including views of the suspension bridge. Nearby, fine dining is in good supply along the historic Muenzgasse lane, a location definitely worth searching out.

Dresden's Neustadt district contains a true array of late-night cafes and pubs, with definite clusters along both the Louisenstrasse and Alaunstrasse stretches, close to the Albertplatz. A number of notable restaurants also lie within this part of the city, particularly around Innere Neustadt, while for others, the eateries, dining options and taverns within the very city centre are more than enough, with many being just off the Prager Strasse - the official Dresden 'shopping mile'. For dining on a budget, various cafes and cheap eats lie around the city's spreading university campus and nearby.
